Aaarrrggghhh, now it happened to me too. Yesterday I changed the shell of the root user by editing /etc/passwd directly. Today I cannot login in and I'm seeing the dreaded "No Shell" message on my console. Read on to see what I did to overcome the problem and regain access to my system.

It's a long time Unix tradition to run applications as root because they need root privileges. In Solaris 10 we can assign privileges to applications so they do not need the root account anymore.
